John Smoltz returned to the mound after two extra days of rest to face Rick Vanden Hurk and the Florida Marlins in the second game of Tuesday's day/night doubleheader. The Braves were in a good position to pick up at least a half game on the Mets after winning the opener. However, even though Smoltz was on the mound, the Braves could not get into Vanden Hurk and the Braves fell, 5-1.

Chuck James took the mound Saturday against Rich Hill and the struggling Cubs. James pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs, but did not factor into the decision. Rich Hill pitched a little better than James, but he made a critical fielding error and the Braves capitalized and took the game, 5-3.
