SpinningIndies.com
SpinningIndies.com was conceived back in mid-2004 as Apple's iTunes store started to become a force in online music. The original idea was to create an iTunes-like store for independent and unsigned artists as well as a robust marketing platform for the artists to promote themselves via a social network of interconnected fans. In fact, when originally conceived my partner, Matt, and I were working under the company name ThinkNeu, Inc. In January 2005 we shutdown ThinkNeu, reincorporated under Bind, Inc. and began work on the SpinningIndies.com project.
We did a good bit of prelimary research, hitting the streets of the Florida Music Festival to understand if bands and independent music fans would consider using a service like this. The response was overwhelmingly positive—60% of fans and 80% of bands would use a similar service.
After the initial prototype, and the killer logo, the project was haulted. We had a new idea that we wanted to pursue and the SpinningIndies.com brand was put on the shelf.
Recently, after digging through some old files, I ran across the awesome logo and decided that it deserved to see the light of day. So I conceived a very simple website based around the question, "Who's playing tonight?" In short, it's a listing of local music shows in which users can "turn up the volume" (or vote) on a particular show to give it more presence. I intended to launch the SpinningIndies.com site back in April 2007, but once again other things got in the way. One day I'll figure out what to do with this potentially awesome brand.

Oddly enough, I hate reading and love writing. I can’t find time to do either. I only read non-fiction—typically business books and magazines. |
